When you are shopping for a storage shed or building you have options. From the big box warehouse stores to even purchasing options online, there are lots of choices available. As you browse your options you may ask yourself, what’s the difference. At Hometown Sheds there are lots of differences between our quality-built sheds and the other guys. Let’s take a closer look at what makes Hometown Sheds different from other shed companies—and why that difference matters to you.
Locally Built Custom Crafted Sheds.
When you see a building on one of our lots at Hometown Sheds, you know that we stand behind the quality craftsmanship. That’s because they are created from the ground up in our own locally owned and operated factory in Danville, VA. Every part of construction is handled with care starting with the materials. All materials are stored indoors prior to construction, ensuring that there are no damage or moisture control concerns. Each window is wrapped on the outside of the window to help seal out moisture then a seal is added on the interior of the frame to block moisture as well. Trim pieces are then added to cover the outside of the window as an extra protective layer.
Floors, Doors & Everything Overhead.
The doors on your shed are treated with the same detail. The steel framed doors on our wooden sheds use solid 14 gauge steel. This helps to prevent warping & sagging over time, something that is often seen with many of those sold at the big box stores. Before each shed’s exterior is painted or stained, each nail hole is individually sealed, which creates a tighter and more moisture resistant seal and better-looking building. And don’t forget the floors! Our sheds are built locally using 3/4” tongue-in-groove floor decking and 2′ x 6′ floor joists for added support. Any area of the shed that may come in close contact to the ground is also pressure or moisture treated to help prevent mold, mildew, and rot over the life of your building.
When you walk in a storage building, look up. Trusses are the beams you see overheard in the Hometown Sheds that hold up the roof. A well-built structure will have a tie beam that is a part of the truss. A metal joining plate will fasten this tie into the walls, giving it stability, and keeping the weight of the roof from pushing the walls apart over time and during snowy weather. Not every company can boast that all its wooden and steel sheds have both tie beams and metal joining plates. Sometimes, you’ll find that scrap wood is used – and sometimes there is neither a tie in nor joining plate, especially if someone builds their own building, but not at Hometown Sheds.
