Galvalume® Versus Galvanized Steel.

When you’re considering a new building, carport or garage, every detail matters. That’s what we make sure to educate our customers on the difference in the types of steel available and how that affects your investment.

First, it’s important to know your options and recognize that all steel sheds are not created equal.

Both Galvalume® and galvanized steel are coated with a layer of zinc to provide protection against corrosion. This coating creates a barrier between the steel and the outside environment. Zinc is resistant to corrosion which means that it helps prevent rust and other types of corrosion.

Galvalume® is s a type of steel that has been coated with a combination of aluminum and zinc, providing enhanced corrosion resistance. It is applied by using a coating of 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc, and 1.5% silicon to the steel substrate. The steel is dipped in zinc through a hot dip process, prior to the baked enamel process. This process offers greater heat resistance for your building as well with its reflective properties, allowing the interior of your building to stay cooler.

You’ll often find Galvalume® in areas with extreme high and low temperatures and hurricane zones. It’s more durable than traditional steel lasting up to double the lifetime. Many builders and contractors often prefer it as well because Galvalume® has a unique appearance with a silver-like metallic finish. This is often preferred for architectural and roofing applications.

Details matter when you’re making an investment like a steel building, and so does the steel. The professionals at Hometown Sheds are here to answer any of your building questions. Call us or stop by today to see your options and get started creating the building of your dreams.
