When it comes to making major investments like a car, home, or a steel building, the type of steel used in the construction matters. At Hometown Sheds, we use Galvalume® steel for our buildings. Here’s why.
You’ve probably heard of galvanized steel – steel that has been coated with a layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion. It’s been used for over 150 years. Galvalume® is a type of steel that has been coated with a combination of aluminum and zinc, providing enhanced corrosion resistance. This coating is applied using 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc, and 1.5% silicon through a hot-dip process before undergoing the baked enamel process.
So, why is Galvalume® the better choice? The aluminum in the coating acts as a protective barrier for the steel, while the zinc prevents corrosion over time. This combination provides greater protection and results in a longer lifespan for the coated steel. Aluminum forms a protective oxide layer that acts as a barrier against corrosion. If the steel is scratched or damaged, the zinc in the Galvalume® will corrode before the underlying steel, providing further protection.
Galvalume® is often preferred in environments where there is a higher risk of corrosion, such as coastal areas or industrial settings. If you live in the South, you’ll love that Galvalume® offers excellent heat resistance due to its reflective properties, which helps keep the interior of your building cooler. It is commonly used in areas with extreme weather conditions, high and low temperatures, and even hurricane zones. Galvalume® is also more durable than traditional steel and can last up to twice as long. It’s nicer looking too; Galvalume® has a distinctive silver-like metallic finish that is often preferred for architectural and roofing applications.
At Hometown Sheds, we construct all our metal sheds and buildings using only top-quality Galvalume® steel. This means that when you purchase one of our buildings, you can rest assured that it will be rust-free, corrosion-resistant, and won’t deteriorate.
